Precautionary closure of our excursion destinations Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden and Alte Saline Bad Reichenhall

On account of the increasing spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, the company Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG is closing its two excursion destinations in Berchtesgaden and in Bad Reichenhall to visitors with effect from 10 March 2020 until further notice.

On account of the increasing spread of the coronavirus COVID-19, the company Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG is closing its two excursion destinations in Berchtesgaden and in Bad Reichenhall to visitors with effect from 10 March 2020 until further notice.

This constitutes a precautionary measure to protect visitors and staff, who come into contact with many hundreds of persons on a daily basis. This has been a very difficult decision for us to take. The uncertain situation, which is changing on a daily basis, has however prompted us to take this step.

As one of the largest salt producers, Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG has the responsibility of ensuring the ability to maintain supplies. This also means minimising any possible risk of infection. In addition, this measure is intended to help actively prevent the spread of the virus, while simultaneously contributing towards the responsible protection of society as well as employees and staff.  

Online tickets for the tour through the Salt Mine or the Old Salt Works that have already been booked will automatically be refunded by us. The same applies to booked events. Based on ongoing coronavirus risk assessments, a decision will be made as to when is the right time for a reopening. We shall inform you about this through our homepage and other regular media channels. We are already looking forward to welcoming you again as our guests.
